United Way of East Mississippi Receives Generous Donation from Leadership Lauderdale Youth Group

United Way of East Mississippi is thrilled to announce a significant donation received from the Leadership Lauderdale Youth group following a successful pickleball tournament held on February 24, 2024. The event, organized by five 11th-grade students from Lamar, Meridian, Northeast, Southeast, and West Lauderdale High Schools raised over $1,000 in support of community initiatives.

The students, driven by a shared passion for making a positive impact, demonstrated their commitment to community service after hearing about the great things that were happening at United Way through this fundraising endeavor. Their dedication and enthusiasm are emblematic of the spirit of youth leadership within the region.

"We are immensely grateful to the Leadership Lauderdale Youth group for their initiative and generosity," said Kym Parnell, Executive Director of United Way of East Mississippi. "Their proactive approach to addressing community needs is inspiring, and we are honored to have their support."

The pickleball tournament not only raised vital funds but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and collaboration among participants. With a desire to continue their philanthropic efforts, the students expressed their intention to make the tournament an annual event, further solidifying their commitment to serving the community.

"We are deeply moved by the outpouring of support from the community and the dedication of these exceptional young leaders," said Michael Gibson, President of the United Way of East Mississippi's Board of Directors.
